CFB were approached by Alun Griffiths to carry out some work on the Clift House Spur viaduct in Bristol as it required some refurbishment to ensure the safety of the people using the footpaths underneath. Initially there was 20 repairs which needed carrying out with various areas of the bridge requiring different needs. Some required removing the loose concrete then treating and reinforcing the steel, and others required a full break out and repair using R4 class hand applied repair mortar and sacrificial anodes. CFB carried out these works in two different ways, one form of works was from a MEWP which carried out the most difficult repairs due to its
dexterity in getting to some difficult areas and providing a safe working platform seen in the photo to the left, then the second form of works was from a mobile scaffold tower which was used in the more accessible areas of the viaduct to utilise 2 working platform to maximise the speed of the works. As you can see in the picture it was not only soffit repairs that were carried out there was also abutment repairs and column repairs.
As you can see in the photo to the right there was some repairs that proved very difficult to be broken out effectively by hand so CFB decided to have a hydro-demolition team break out the abutments of the bridge as they thought this would be the best option to give the best results for the client. So a scaffold was erected to give the team a safe working platform with sheeting all around it to ensure the safety of anyone in or around the site. Following the hydro demolition teams work breaking out the ends these repairs were then re installed by hand in the abutments of the viaduct. This job provided some pretty tricky challenges for the CFB team however they overcame these challenges and completed the job to a very high standard.
